New pictures of Jared Leto's version of the Joker have recently been released, and they have caused some controversy on how the crown prince of crime is visually portrayed.
Comic Book Resources has stated that the Joker, who is pictured with a glossy purple trench coat, purple cane, no shirt, no shoes and an Arkham Asylum prisoner pair of pants, takes his look from the Mexican cartels. While it could be a stretch, Will Smith has stated that he looks like a pimp and that he never even met Jared Leto.
While that could sound strange to the average movie fan, Smith said that Leto was so in character for the several months the two worked together, it was like he never acted alongside Leto since it was the Joker everyday on the set. According to Gamespot, the two veteran actors barely spoke outside the words action and cut.
Leto himself admits that he took a deep dive into the character of the Joker, paying homage to the actors who played the character before him. Leto said that it was a unique opportunity, and that he doesn't think that he could've done the character justice any other way.
Leto promises to bring something new to the character, as the actor is very well known for his method acting. When asked what sort of methods Leto did to get into character, it was revealed that he would often listen to gospel music and literature as it gave a little insight on the Joker's mindset as a whole.
According to Leto, the Joker might be older than a lot of people think he is, and that if someone doesn't break the rules or think outside of the box, no ground will be gained. Leto did, however, say that the role was completely taxing and it could take a while to cool down from it.
While Joker may not exactly be part of the Suicide Squad in the movie, he does play a crucial role in the film's plotline. The movie has been confirmed to follow the storyline of "Batman: Assault on Arkham", in which the Suicide Squad is tasked to recover a thumb drive owned by the Riddler. During the mission, the squad runs into several problems, one of which is Harley Quinn's main squeeze, the Joker.
