Amir Khan has yet to get back into the ring though he is a frontrunner right now as the next possible opponent of Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao.
Khan last took the ring in May when he won via unanimous decision over Chris Algieri in New York and has since been in the sidelines. He was among the frontrunners as Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s possible opponent but was shunned in favor of a less-heralded Andre Berto.
The southpaw seemed to have the inside track but was set aside in what the Mayweather camp claims was his constant bickering on Mayweather despite being told to clam up.
And now he is at it again, saying he has grown tired of waiting and initially said that he was walking away on a possible bout with his former sparring partner.
Khan eventually simmered down after Top Rank promoter Bob Arum shed more light on what was going on and the Briton said he would wait another week. That one week wait is almost up.
So would this mean that if he hears nothing from the Pacquiao camp that he is dashing all hopes for a big fight with the eight-time division camp?
It seems that Khan’s inability to close big fights are all because of his actions. His impatience is one thing but one thing that critics see is that Khan sees himself in the same level of Mayweather or Pacquiao which is sadly not the case.
His boxing skills are impressive but when you think about the accomplishments he has made compared to the two decorated fighters, he hardly makes the grade. And unless he realizes that he will be on the lower side of the fence, landing big fights could be hard for the British hard-hitter.
Khan is undoubtedly one of the best boxers in his division but not (yet) among the best of the best. Right now he is considered one of the top three possible opponents for Pacquiao in April 9, 2016. He along with Terence Crawford and Timothy Bradley Jr. are the shortlisted candidates.
If he continues his impatient rant, he could likely be stricken off the list and a lot of that will be because of his own doing. So in essence, all Khan can do right now is wait.
An announcement of Pacquiao’s next opponent will likely be made after the November 7 joust between Timothy Bradley Jr. and Brandon Rios. If Bradley puts on a magnificent display, he could gain the nod and be Pacquiao’s final opponent next year.
Right now, Crawford just finished an impressive performance against Dierry Jean though the outcome was already called even before the match started.
Bradley’s opponent is a former Pacquiao foe so Bradley needs to show he can survive Bam Bam and pray that no controversies shroud the event as well.
For Khan? Well all he can do right now is wait. From here on, uttering anything could be costly and he needs to realize that before shooting out anymore that could hurt his chances of landing a big name fight. Not only with Pacquiao but with other rising boxers pegged to top their division.
