The casting of talents for the movie reboot of 'Power Rangers' continues. This time, the cast for the Black and Blue Rangers have been revealed.
In an announcement made in twitter, Lionsgate unveiled that Chinese Actor Ludi Lin and indie film star RJ Cycler will take on the helm of the might Black Ranger and Blue Ranger, respectively.
According to IMDb, Lin is known for his roles in the 2012 films "The Shannon Entropy" and "Holiday Spin." The actor recently starred in "The Monster Hunt," which became the highest-grossing Chinese film ever.
Meanwhile, Cycler is a relatively-unknown talent who gained attention from his performance as "Earl" in the independent film "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl" which received highly positive reception from critics.
The two actors will be joining Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger) and Dacre Montgomery (Red Ranger) to form the still incomplete core of the "Power Rangers."
As cited by Screen Rant, the cast of the film is undoubtedly unpopular. However, it cited that the film's casting of relatively newcomers is just part of the plans made by its director, Dean Israelite.
The entertainment news outlet also suggested that the announcement of the cast for the yellow ranger will probably come in the following days given that there is only a one-day gap when the cast are revealed.
It was previously reported that the story of the "Power Rangers" movie reboot will revolve around a battle with Rita Repulsa. It was also believed that the movie will retain the names and characters of those in the original "Power Rangers" Mighty Morphin TV Series such as Jason (Red Ranger), Billy (Blue Ranger), Zack (Black Ranger), Kimberly (Pink Ranger) and Trini (Yellow Ranger).
However, in recent developments, it has been reported that the movie will instead continue on the events of the current running TV show "Power Rangers Dino Charge."
Screen Rant pointed that if it is true that the the film will not follow the original "Mighty Morphin" squad, the addition of more and new Power Rangers is highly possible.
The movie will begin filming on January 18, 2016 until April in Vancouver, Canada. Israelite will take the helms of the film while Robert Orci (Star Trek) will serve as Executive Producer. Meanwhile, "X-Men First Class" writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz will be in charge in writing the film's script.
As of present time, there is no official plot details confirmed for the new 'power rangers" movie. Nonetheless, it is already scheduled to be released on January 13, 2017.
