Google has started to release Android 6.0 Marshmallow and now that wait begins on when the latest Android OS will come to the smartphone brands.

At the forefront of the wait is none other than Samsung which has a long list of devices waiting on the Android update. And it is believed that from its roster of devices, it will be the Samsung Galaxy S6 which will be the first one to get the latest Android M OS.

While that is the belief, there is no specific date mentioned for now. There are Samsung Galaxy owners hoping that the rollout come before 2015 comes to a close while a safe estimate would be early 2016.

With that up in the air, the best thing that Samsung mobile phone owners could do for now is apply the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update.

Apparently this is the immediate patch that users have for now, something that was made to address the celebrated Stagefright bug. For those who are unaware, the said bug is an exploit which allows hackers to gain control of your device through MMS.

Aside from MMS, the bug could make its way to the device through medial files like MP3 or MP4. Hence, it would be best to seriously consider applying the patch to address such security concerns.

For the ones who want to see if the update is available, head on over to your phone’s settings and check the update if it is already available.

A friendly reminder on updating, remember to backup your phone first just in case something goes haywire. When updating, make sure you have a reliable connection and make sure that your phone is at least 50% charged to be sure taht the update process is done without issues.

As far as the release of Android 6.0 is concerned, other devices expected to get it after the Samsung Galaxy S6 include the Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy S6 Edge, and Edge Plus.

With regard when Android 6.0 Marshmallow would be available would depend on when the Samsung Galaxy S6 gets it. From the looks of it, the best bet for it to come is by 2016.

For those who are holding Android-powered devices other than Samsung, you may want to check if your device is included in the list of mobile phones that would be getting Android 6.0.
