For the past few days, Facebook has already received several complaints about their app being the main culprit that depletes the battery life of iPhones.
In a blog by Matt Galligan, he pointed that the Facebook app for his iPhone has been the leading cause of his battery drain with 15 percent of the power being consumed for the app.
Over the course of one whole week, he noted that despite disabling the background activities of Facebook, the app still continuously drains. The user also claims that the "extraneous background usage" just worsened the activity of the app.
According to Mac Rumors, the same thing happened to one of their users but on a bigger effect. The report by the site mentioned that 39 percent battery power consumption in just six days was recorded by their complaining user -- this, after also turning the background application off.
Several speculations have also risen from the problem. In a comment, Nick Heer cited that Facebook has created "channels" that enabled their app to run and stay alive in the background app even with the users turning such option off.
Meanwhile, a post in Mac Stories by Federico Viticci, has suggested that Facebook has been "hijacking audio sessions" on the user's phone which he described as a "shady" practice by the company that Apple should take action into.
Both Heer and Viticci have suggested that users should uninstall the application until it is addressed by the company. They even added that using Facebook in Safari is better while also advising users to turn-off auto-play in order to perhaps, minimize battery consumption and data usage.
On the other hand, with such negative feedbacks popping, Facebook has broke their silence and vowed to address the concerns and issues raised by the complainants.
According to the report by Tech Crunch, a Facebook spokesperson admits that the company indeed, receives various reports from iPhone owners and acknowledges the presence of such issues.
The spokesperson also confirmed that the company is now looking at the problem in order to find a solution.
"We have heard reports of some people experiencing battery issues with our iOS app. We're looking into this and hope to have a fix in place soon," the FB spokesperson told Tech Crunch.
Nonetheless, the Facebook rep did not divulge any specific detail regarding the real cause or issue of the battery drain in the iPhone. The actions the company is planning to take as well as how much longer users have to wait have not been clarified as well.
As of present time, there is no official statement from Apple regarding the issue with Facebook.
