'50 Shades of Grey' cast contender Henry Cavill has finally broken his silence about playing the coveted role of Christian Grey. In a recent interview with Details, the 'Man of Steel' actor seemed nonchalant about participating in the film adaptation of the bestselling erotic thriller.

"Whether that happens, that decision will be made at the time is had to be made," the 29-year-old British actor said. "It would be a very different kind of thing than 'Man of Steel'."

According to Gather Entertainment, Cavill first caught the eye of '50 Shades' fans after appearing on a couple of Dunhill ads. In the ads, which were published in 2008, Cavill appears very Christian-esque in his smart suit and piercing blue eyes.

Of course, getting the highly coveted role won't come easy to the superhero-playing actor. Vampire-playing actors Ian Somerholder ('The Vampire Diaries') and Alexander Skarsgard ('True Blood') along with 'White Collar' actor Matt Bomer have been favorites among fans for the role of Christian. 'Magic Mike' star Channing Tatum has also been added as a tough contender.

Speculation over who will play Christian Grey, as well as Anastasia Steele, has run rampant since Universal Pictures and Focus Films purchased the rights to the film earlier this year. '50 Shades' author E.L. James has reportedly stated that casting could take awhile. The film has added producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti and screenwriter Kelly Marcel to its production team.

The first film in the three-book series is not yet scheduled for theatrical release.
