There are rumors that a "Nancy Drew" TV series is in development. It will be the fourth time in history that the mystery-solving character will be featured on television.
TV Line reported that CBS is working on a drama based on the classic novels by Carolyn Keene. Her legacy dates back to the 1930s and the character is generally portrayed as a curious teenage sleuth. Over the years, young readers have come to love the crime-solving girl and her popularity eventually spread to a worldwide audience.
Compared to previous film and TV adaptations, the upcoming series will introduce a modern take on the young detective. Before, "Nancy Drew" has been made into a TV show three times. "The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries" was featured from 1977 to 1979. The "Nancy Drew" series aired in 1995. A TV movie, which was supposed to be a series, was shown in 2002, starring Maggie Lawson. A film in 2007 was also featured, starring Emma Roberts.
Reportedly, Nancy Drew will be at least 30 years old and working as a detective for the New York Police Department. Similar to the books, she will be busy solving crimes by taking and observing clues and crime scenes. Nancy will also be dealing with the various challenges presented daily by the modern world. The new "Nancy Drew" TV series will be co-written and executive-produced by Joan Rater and Tony Phelan (Grey's Anatomy), Entertainment Weekly wrote.
Deadline revealed that Oscar-winning producer Dan Jinks (American Beauty) will also executive produce. Nick Nantell brought the project in and will serve as producer. CBS Television Studios will serve as the studio.
There is no news yet whether the stories will be based on the various mysteries that Drew solved in the books, or whether the showrunners will make their own crimes to solve. There are no announcements yet on who is set to star in the upcoming TV show, as well as other potential cast members.
Recently, several old movies and shows have been revived as TV series, including "MacGyver" on CBS, and "Lethal Weapon" on Fox. Other popular titles that are still in the works include "The X-Files", "Prison Break", "Heroes Reborn" and "The Muppets".
There is no official launch date for the new "Nancy Drew" TV series. It may also arrive with a different title. The first three TV adaptations have had mixed reviews from viewers. Hopefully, the fourth one will turn out to be the most successful. More updates and details are expected in the following weeks.
