The tablets pile on.

September saw the launch of the Amazon Kindle Fire HD and Samsung's Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablets, but one year apart. The two tablets share some similarities in terms of specifications, but major differences do exist.

The first aspect is the frame size of the tablets.

The Kindle Fire HD features a length of 7.60-inches, width of 5.39-inches, and a depth of 0.41-inches, while the Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablet has a length of 7.74-inches, width of 5.24-inches, and a depth of 0.31-inches.

The weight, slightly, goes in favor of the Samsung tablet as it weighs 11.99-ounces to Amazon's 13.93-ounces.

When it comes to the display, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is what it is. The 7.7 aspect of its name represents the screen size of the tablet. The screen also has a pixel resolution of 1,280x800 with 196 pixels per image (ppi).

The Kindle Fire HD has a screen size of seven inches, the same pixel resolution as the Samsung tablet, but at 216 ppi.

There are notable differences when it comes to the internal storage and memory of the tablets.

The Galaxy Tab 7.7 offers 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB internal storage models with 1GB of RAM. It also offers a microSD card slot for up to 32GB of memory.

The Kindle Fire HD doesn't offer a microSD card slot, similar to how Apple operates their iPad devices. The Amazon tablet offers only 16GB and 32GB models but maintains the 1GB of RAM.

The wireless connectivity for the Kindle Fire HD and Galaxy Tab 7.7 include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, and USB accessibility. The Samsung tablet also features Wi-Fi Direct and Wi-Fi hotspot.

Camera abilities also make the tablets distinctive.

While there is no rear-facing camera for the Kindle Fire HD, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 features 3.15-megapixels with 2,048x1,536 pixels.

The front-facing camera for the Kindle Fire HD is 1.3-megapixels with 1,280x1,024 pixels while the Samsung product is two-megapixels.

There are also no video recording capabilities for the Kindle Fire HD while the Galaxy Tab 7.7 records in 720p and at 30 frames per second.

Both tablets use the same parent operating system, the Android. However, the devices come originally installed with different versions. The Galaxy Tab 7.7 utilized the version 3.2, also known as the Honeycomb while the Kindle Fire HD has the version 4.0, also known as the Ice Cream Sandwich.

The tablets come in black, for color options.

The Kindle Fire HD's starting price is $199 for the 16GB unit and $249 for the 32GB. The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is available for $399.99 when signing a contract with Verizon.
