One match will not push through for UFC 192 and it will be the one pitting Johny Hendricks and Tyron Woodley.
According to MMAFighting.com, the sudden withdrawal of the bout came about after Hendricks was rushed to the emergency room following a blockage in his intestine while cutting weight as well as a kidney stone.
UFC President Dana White made the unfortunate announcement via Twitter Friday morning.
Hendricks has apparently had his bout with weight cutting issues, something which may have all the more made worse after relieving nutritionist Mike Dolce. Prior to the sudden medical issue, Hendricks weighed in last Thursday at 183 pounds, something he said he was happy with.
"The weight was coming off fine and then yesterday my body just started to shut down," Hendricks said. "When it hit that point, I tried to push through it, and well, it didn't go well because then I had to go to the ER."
As of this writing, Hendricks was reportedly no longer in the hospital but did add that his body was hurting and paying the price for it. He adds that he hasn’t fully recovered yet though his state could be different tomorrow or maybe even after a couple of days.
Hendricks vs Woodley was originally planned to be the co-main event for UFC 192. With the pull out, the card pitting Joseph Benavidez vs. Ali Bagautinov has been bumped up to the main card and take its place.
The occurrence, of course, left Woodley disappointed though he barely has a choice but to accept the sudden turn of events.
"I'm frustrated, obviously," Woodley told MMAFighting.com. "I'm always trying to look for the lesson in things and positive signs. I believe things happen for a reason.
Apparently, Woodley was not pleased with the whole Hendricks issue, saying that the fact that his opponent was unable to make the weight should have already been counted as a win for him.
For his part, Hendricks did issue a formal apology for the unfortunate development.
"I'm sorry. I am learning and always will be learning about my weight. I'm sorry for this. It was going great until my body started to shut down and when that happened I didn't want to stop because of the fans, but I want to fight again and if I hurt my body too bad I won't be able to. I want to say sorry. It won't happen again, and I will get better from this."
After the debacle, it seems that Hendricks is contemplating on the best way to address the matter. He may need to lose more weight or if not, move up a division which could be 185.
"We might move up to 185, but I want to get home and start testing myself on body fat and try to work it down and see if that's going to work in a mini weight cut. Then that's when I can really focus on what's next. If it doesn't go go good, then it's 185 for sure. I still enjoy fighting, just not the weight cut."
