It seems that the 5th season of "Person of Interest" has been reduced to 13 episodes rather than the usual 22- to 23-episode season, making fans of the show wonder if this will be the final season.
However, according to Yibada, the creative team behind "Person of Interest" is still optimistic that they can still give their fans an entertaining and captivating storyline while waiting for news of a possible season 6. Actor Michael Emerson, who plays Harold Finch, believes that the show will start to get new viewers since "Person of Interest" was recently picked up by Netflix.
Executive producer Greg Plageman is also excited for what the series will bring this season, stating that even though they were shocked that the episode count was reduced to 13, everyone on the crew is proud of the work they have done up to this point. Plageman also stated that he was uncertain about the future of the show and contemplated finishing all the storylines by the end of season 5.
While having the episode count cut for a season doesn't exactly mean certain cancellation for a show as shows could get picked up by another network or continue online, most of the time it means the show's run is coming to end on the network. One prime example is that of the "Mentalist", which had its episodes cut by CBS last year and was cancelled a few months later.
While it is not certain if "Person of Interest" will be cancelled or not, producers of the show would like audiences to focus on the current storyline of the show.
The current storyline will follow the team of Harold, Root (Amy Acker) and John Reese (Jim Caviezel) during their ongoing battle against Artificial Intelligence and Samaritan. Emerson states that the battle against Samaritan has changed the team, and defeating Samaritan has now become more of an obsession than a goal. This dangerous turn could make things complicated.
Season 5 will also start to feature more the relationship between Root and Finch, as Root's vulnerabilities begin to show. While this is normal for any relationship, the added strain of the world coming to an end doesn't help either.
