Verizon began shipping out the HTC Droid DNA last week, giving its customers access to what might be the most dazzling display ever on a smartphone. While the smartphone was previously available online only, it seems that shoppers can now begin picking one up at the local Verizon retail store.
A previous report by us stated that the HTC Droid DNA would arrive on stores' shelves beginning November 27, but calls to Verizon stores around Manhattan in New York show that some Verizon stores are already carrying the handset. If you're planning on running out and buying the 5-inch smartphone, be sure to call your local retailer first to make sure it's in stock.
The HTC Droid DNA is the latest collaboration between Verizon and HTC. The smartphone offers a compelling alternative to the massive 5.55-inch Samsung Galaxy Note 2 thanks to its lower price point and incredible display. The HTC Droid DNA costs $199.99 with a two-year contract, while the Galaxy Note 2 costs $299.99 with a two-year contract. Verizon's laziness in releasing the Galaxy Note 2, and Droid DNA promotion seem to indicate that Verizon is more interested in the Droid DNA than the Galaxy Note 2.
The Droid DNA's 5-inch 1080p screen puts out a whopping 440 pixels per inch (ppi). The handset also comes with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The Droid DNA also has LTE, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera.
The Droid DNA lacks the S Pen functionality that the Galaxy Note 2 has, but with Beats audio and a 1080p screen, the smarpthone is a great buy for those who love their music and videos.
If you're a Verizon customers, what feature about the Droid DNA makes it more compelling than the Galaxy Note 2?
