Edge will be coming to Xbox One.
This is what Microsoft Edge Dev. answered when asked on twitter if they will be bringing the new browser to the said console.
As pointed by Windows Central, Microsoft Edge, which is formerly called Project Spartan, is the "next-generation web browser of Microsoft" that is built and integrated into Windows 10.
The site mentioned that the browser is set to take the place of Internet Explorer, both in the "name and the core rendering engine." Moreover, it also cited that even though Edge is currently available only for Windows and Windows Phone, there is a very high possibility that it will also come to Xbox One given that it is a "universal app".
The report furthered that since Spartan can be updated through the Store as an app update, Microsoft can quickly change or improve the browser without having to link it to a deeper OS upgrade.
According to VG 24/7, the announcement is not that surprising since it has been expected when Microsoft used Edge for Windows 10. The site even pointed that it will also be great for Xbox one to update or change its browser since its current "custom version of Internet Explorer," though useful, needs a lot of improvement
Moreover, despite the fact the Microsoft Web Platform team did not specify any date for the availability of Edge for Xbox One, VG 24/7 speculated that it might be released along with the User Interface (UI) overhaul that is reported to be available this September.
The site added that if it will not be included in the September UI overhaul that is projected to be 50 percent faster than that of the current Xbox One, the availability of Edge will still not be so far off.
Xbox One users has heard a lot of major update and improvement reports for Xbox One in previous days and the addition of Microsoft Edge will definitely give a big push for the console come the holiday season. Recently, it was announced that the console will have a tweaking on its current reputation system in order to prevent abuse from other gamers while an update for a redesigned home, revamped OneGuide, and improved community section will be coming this November.
As of present time, there is no confirmed date for the availability of Microsoft Edge for Xbox One or announcement if the browser will be a custom version in the console just like its predecessor.
