“The Mist” is set to be adapted into television form soon. The 1980 Stephen King novella will be developed by Dimension Television into a new series.

In 2007, “The Mist” was adapted into film by director Frank Darabont. The upcoming TV series will be inspired by both the novel by King and the movie by Darabont. The story focuses on a strange mist that suddenly surrounds a small town, bringing with it several scary killer creatures. Town residents have to deal with the external threats as well as their personal issues as they try to survive, Screen Rant wrote.

Stephen King approved the TV project, which was created by writer Christian Torpe. Recently, King’s 2009 novel “Under the Dome” was also given the TV treatment and aired on CBS for three seasons. Torpe is represented by ICM Partners and Principal Entertainment LA. Stephen King will also inspire other shows like “11/22/63” on Hulu and the cable miniseries “The Stand”, among others.

“The terror and drama in Stephen King’s novella are so vast that we felt serialized television is the best place to explore them in greater depth. With this show, Christian has created a fascinating band of characters and a story with infinite scares,” stated Bob Weinsten, head of Weinstein Company and Dimension Films.

King’s material is rich and wide, allowing a lot of room for writers to delve more into the main story. The plot will be developed into a survival story as the characters struggle to overcome the various threats brought by the mist. The concept will rely much on an excellent cast and thorough and creative writing to maintain viewer engagement. There is the challenge of maintaining the central mystery a constant threat for several episodes or seasons, so writers might have to make some adjustments to make “The Mist” as engaging as models like “Lost” and “The Walking Dead”.

Deadline stated that Megan Spanjian, Keith Levine and Matthew Signer of Dimension TV will oversee the TV project. There is still no news regarding the characters and actors who will be appearing on the show. The official launch date is also yet to be announced. More news and updates on “The Mist” TV series are expected in the following weeks.

Cinema Blend reported that the movie changed the ambiguous ending of the novella and provided a darker version, which is assumed by fans not to be replicated by the TV show.
