Last Sunday, Kadokawa announced that the PS Vita game "Prince of Stride" will have an animated television series adaptation.
"Prince of Stride" is an otome game, or a girly game for the PS Vita, released in Japan last July 30, 2015. According to Anime News Network, the anime adaptation will be set for release this coming winter of 2016. Since the announcement featured on a Japanese website was so recent, the YouTube channel titled Media Factory has the only promotional video of the upcoming anime.
The people behind the anime series will include Shūji Sogabe [FiFS] for the original design works for the series. Kanako Nono [FiFS] is responsible for the original character design, and Tomoyuki Uchikoga is credited with the original graphic design. Atsuko Ishizuka (Hanayamata, No Game, No Life, The Pet Girl of Sakurasou) is directing the series at MADHOUSE. Taku Kishimoto (Silver Spoon, Haikyu!!, Bunny Drop) is handling the series composition, and Kokunen Ou (Hanayamata) is adapting Nono's character designs for animation.
The original voice cast for the game will also lend their vocal cords for the upcoming anime. The game's cast include: Ryohei Kimura as Riku Yagami, Nobuhiko Okamoto as Takeru Fujiwara, Kana Hanazawa as Nana Sakurai, Kensho Ono as Hozumi Kohinata, Daisuke Ono as Heath Hasekura, Hiro Shimono as Ayumu Kadowaki, Junichi Suwabe as Kyosuke Kuga, Ryotaro Okiayu as Yujiro Dan, Mamoru Miyano as Reiji Suwa, Daisuke Hirakawa as Shizuma Mayuzumi, Takuya Eguchi as Bantaro Chiyomatsu, Tatsuhisa Suzuki as Tasuku Senoo, Yuuki Ono as Asuma Mayuzumi and Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Kaede Okumura.
As for the premise of the game, Visual Novel Database described "Stride" as an extreme sports that involves six people running through towns. VNDB further elaborated the game and said "'You' (main character), or Sakurai Nana (default name changeable) became drawn to Stride after watching a web video depicting a Stride match with Hounan Senior High Academy. Wholeheartedly wanting to play Stride, Nana enrolled into Hounan Academy. What awaited Nana were other boys who were to Stride the same way she was. As you grow as a "Relationer", the leader of the team, win the "End of Summer" Eastern Japan Tournament alongside your teammates! School life, your club family, close friendship, rivalry, matches... What awaits at the end of this all? A story about experiencing your once-in-a-lifetime youth at full speed. Youth x Sports Club. That is 'Prince of Stride.'"
Madhouse studios is known for work such as Ninja Scrolls, Claymore, Last Order: Final Fantasy VII and many more. With them working with Kadokawa, "Prince of Stride" will be an anime to keep a close eye on. Stay tuned for more details.
