There were many highlights during the recently concluded MTV VMAs and one was when Kanye West announced that he will run for President in 2020.
Many things happened during the MTV Video Music Awards over the weekend. From Miley Cyrus and her crazy outfits to her feud with Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift's girl squad conquering the red carpet and the stage. But then, there's that moment when Kanye West took the stage and within his 10-minute acceptance speech announced that he has decided to run for presidency in 2020.
It was Taylor Swift who presented Kanye West the highest award given for that night. During his acceptance speech for the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, Kanye West did a lot of mumbling and talked about a variety of subjects. But just before he wrapped up his speech, the rapper did the unthinkable and announced that he will be running for presidency in 2020, CNN reported. That was definitely one of the biggest surprises of the night. Now, whether what he said was true or not, no one can confirm.
"I don't know what I finna lose after this. It don't matter, though; It's not about me. It's about ideas. New ideas. People with ideas. People who believe in truth," West declared. "And yes, as you probably could've guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president."
Kanye West and wife Kim Kardashian have both been involved in a fundraiser last month for Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton. The reality star even endorsed the politician saying that she loved hearing Clinton speak about the goals for the country.
Apart from his early declaration, Kanye West also confessed that he doesn't understand awards shows despite being in one and was even blunt in admitting that he smoked weed just before the event. The camera then panned to Kim Kardashian who was joined by Taylor Swift in the front row.
Although it's not sure whether Kanye's declaration is something serious, one thing is obviously sure. Taylor Swift and Kanye West have managed to put the past behind them, reported Huffington Post. The two had an infamous feud that carried on for a long time but it looks like things have been good between them.
"I'm really happy for you and Imma let you finish, but Kanye had one of the greatest careers of all time. I first met Kanye West six years ago at this show, actually," Taylor explained before calling Kanye West on stage.
After Taylor handed him his award, Kanye thanked Taylor for being gracious and even added that he also often thinks about the first time they met.
