WWE 2K16 is set to hit shelves soon and everyone knows that the WWE star selected to appear on the cover is no other than the man known as the Rattlesnake, Stone Cold Steve Austin.
For a major project such as this, it seems fitting the Austin would be given the honor. Add to the fact that the 2K Sports and the WWE are trying to make amends after a lackluster WWE 2K15 left many disappointed, the new and improved installment promises to be something to look forward to.
Speaking of covers, a report from the Won claims that Austin wasn’t the only one (or the primary?) WWE star to be on the cover of WWE 2K16. It seems that Roman Reigns would have made the cover instead though the change in plans could be tied up to the controversy surrounding the former Shield member.
This of course is in relation to the storied ride of Reigns dating back to early this year. After winning the 2015 Royal Rumble, the WWE Universe showed their dismay at the push saying that Reigns is not yet ready to become the WWE’s new face.
It took some damage control on the part of the WWE to set things straight, including a pay-per-view (WWE Fastlane) to somehow save the WWE’s faltering stature.
The WWE went on to push the Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar fight which was originally scripted to see the Samoan win the WWE title. But as everyone knows, the match turned out to be a non-contest with Seth Rollins cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase and stealing the WWE belt from under the noses of Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns.
One thing that many felt Reigns needed was work behind the microphone. In the ring, Reigns had already established himself as a fierce competitor. But as Reigns run roughshod over opponents thrown at him, many felt that his matches were becoming too predictable.
Enter Bray Wyatt.
With Reigns currently working on his piece, his feud with Bray Wyatt is seen as something that will work to his benefit.
Dean Ambrose has joined the mix as well as the latest addition to the Wyatt family with Braun Strowman. As things stand now, this feud continues until the time comes that the WWE feels Reigns is ready for the big push.
Once that happens, then maybe everything else will follow. Once Reigns is catapulted to stardom, all the rest will follow, including that of being on the cover of the WWE 2K video game.
