It's still 2012, but that hasn't stopped the speculation and interest in one of 2013's most anticipated smartphones from rising. The Galaxy S4 already has people talking, and a new report states that Samsung will unveil the device in late February next year.
The report comes to us via SamMobile, which is reporting that MobileGeeks received a tip that Samsung will showcase the device in late February 2013, possibly at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event. MWC 2013 will be held in Barcelona from February 25-28.
Bear in mind that this is an unconfirmed tip, and that until Samsung sends out press invites, this information will have to be treated as a rumor.
This isn't the first time that the Galaxy S4 has been slated for a MWC 2013 unveiling. A report earlier this year said the same, but Samsung quickly dismissed the information as mere rumor. New evidence, however, makes MWC 2013 a compelling event to unleash the Galaxy S4.
For starters, MWC 2013 is the world's biggest mobile expo, and would give the Galaxy S4 tons of press. On top of that, it seems that Apple may introduce an iPhone 5S by summer 2013. Given Samsung's current momentum, it seems natural that Samsung would want to get a head start on Apple for their next smartphone bout.
Samsung has also began mass producing technologies that are rumored to be in their next flagship smartphone. The company recently began production of a 4.99-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display that will give users an eye-popping 441 pixels per inch. The screen is widely expected to be the Galaxy S4's display.
Other rumored specs include a 2.0Ghz quad-core processor, a minimum of 2GB RAM, and a 13-megapixel camera.
Some had believed that the Galaxy S4 could show up as soon as the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013 in Las Vegas. CES 2013, however, takes place in January, and the time frame seems too early given the Galaxy S3's current running success. A Galaxy S4 unveiling at MWC 2013 seems far more likely, although Samsung might wait to hold its own Galaxy S4 event sometime before summer 2013 starts like it did with the Galaxy S3.
