Just a few days ago, reports surfaced that 20th Century Fox bought the movie rights for the Norse mythology-based novel 'Fall of Gods' which drew comparison to the likes of "Game of Thrones" and "Warcraft." Now, the company, which seems to be excited with its new acquisition, has brought in a director to bring the movie into life.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), newly rising "Maze Runner" Director Wes Ball has been tabbed by Fox to take the helm in making the fantasy book from a Kickstarter crowd-funded project into a big screen adaptation.
THR furthered that along with Ball, Steve Tzirlin, popularly known for his work in the "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," Brooklyn Weaver of Energy Entertainment, and "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" producer Joe Hartwick Jr. will also serve as producers.
"Fall of Gods" is a graphic novel from Mood Studios based in Denmark. It was created by Mood CEO and Concept Designer Rasmus Berggreen together with artist Jan Ditlev Christensen and Hitman video game writer Michael Vogt, who all aimed of creating a book with a genuine Scandinavian characteristic of Norse mythology.
"I have mostly seen American versions of Norse Mythology, and as a Scandinavian I really think it's time to get this (Scandinavian) point of view across and that is what I set out to do," Berggreen stated in a video posted in their Kickstarter page for the project.
In the synopsis posted by Mood in their website, "Fall of God" follows the warrior named Vali, who despite having a haunting past, has found peace in the caress of the woman she loved.
"For years he has lived far from society, tending to his farm and trying to forget the battles he fought...and the crimes he committed. But one day his love disappears, and he must set out to find her. He will once again have to face the creatures of Jotunheim and the powerful Aesir. Suddenly, the man he thought he had buried deep down inside has risen to the surface once more...and he comes seeking vengeance," Mood narrated.
As reported by Screen Rant, the book shows a new perspective on Norse mythology that is emphasized with awe-inspiring artistry and graphics that made it an instant hit. The report furthered that if the film reflects the visuals as illustrated in the book, it could easily become at par with the level of other epic films like "300".
Moreover, the report by Screen Rant added that "Fall of Gods" could be the movie that can bring Ball's career to a whole new level. Given also the potential of the story to establish a strong franchise, if Fox remained committed and willing to fund the project, the movie can be the catalyst to bring the genre of fantasy film into a new era.
