A low-budget Black Ops 2 Zombies live action web-series is now in the works, and set for release on January 15, 2013.

Directed by Jason Rosete and scribed by Nate Lee, the film's synopsis reads: "Three agents find themselves on a seemingly abandoned island. Equipped with only their skills and an unexpected ally, they hope to survive the elements...Zombies."

The Call of Duty franchise introduced Zombies mode with the launch of World at War in 2008, and has been a hall mark of each subsequent Treyarch-developed entry since. The latest iteration of Zombies was included in Black Ops 2 and features three separate play types: story mode, survival mode, and grief mode.

Story mode encourages players to assemble weapons using resources found in each map. The game's official site reads: "Collect the right pieces as you make your way through [the map] TRANZIT and you might have a chance to put them to good use. Shotguns are classic, and rifles are powerful, but neither can compare with cover offered by the ZOMBIE SHIELD!"

Survival Mode is a test of endurance for any undead hunter, rife with customization options for players to tweak. The concept is strongly reminiscent of Gears of War 2's Horde Mode, which has seemingly inspired every co-op multiplayer game since its release.

Grief Mode pits two teams of four players against one another, but takes away their ability to attack one another. The goal is to direct the zombies towards the opposing team and survive the longest.

Call of Duty Black Ops 2 is now available on PS3, Xbox 360, and the Wii U.
