K-pop phenomenon Psy and 80s rapper MC Hammer took the stage at the American Music Awards to perform a mashup of viral hit "Gangnam Style" and Hammer's "Too Legit to Quit." The duo closed the award ceremony on Sunday night with their infectious dance moves and energetic music, bringing audience members to their feet, MTV News reported.
Psy, who became an overnight international sensation this summer through his viral hit 'Gangnam Style,' teased his performance with the famous rapper through Twitter. He wrote, "I'm gonna perform #GangnamStyle tonight @theAMAs with the #SpecialGuest !!! Who THAT~!???"
He later tweeter "#HammerTime" before taking the stage.
Ditching his iconic blue suit for a sparkly black top and signature hammer pants, Psy got the crowd dancing his "horse" dance before bringing in MC Hammer. Mid-performance Psy said three familiar words, "Stop, Hammer time," which brought the rapper right on stage. Surrounded by strobe lights and cheering audience members, the two seamlessly moved from Psy's horse dance to MC Hammer's signature moves.
After their performance, Psy tweeted a photo of the two surrounded by their dancers as well as a rehearsal video of MC Hammer practicing for the mashup. Earlier in the week, Psy performed with another iconic artist, Madonna, during her tour stop at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
