While many devices are still catching up to to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, many Google-branded devices have already been upgraded to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Among the devices with an official Android 4.2 update is the GSM Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
The GSM Galaxy Nexus began receiving the official Google rollout of Android 4.2 a few days ago, and the upgrade should now be available to most Galaxy Nexus owners. A number of custom Android 4.2 ROMS have also been released by the open source Android community.
Those with the Verizon LTE Galaxy Nexus will have to wait a bit longer since the carrier has to tailor the update for its wireless network. Verizon's track record regarding Android updates hasn't been stellar, and the carrier is often known for long delays, so don't hold your breath for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus to receive an official Android 4.2 anytime soon.
Other Google devices have also received their Android 4.2 updates. The LG Nexus 4 smartphone comes with Android 4.2 at the time of purchase, as does the Google Nexus 10 tablet. Nexus 7 owners can also enjoy Android 4.2 at the time of this report.
Android 4.2 is still considered part of the Jelly Bean series, but offers some significant and welcome new additions. One of the most widely used ones will surely be Android 4.2 multiple user accounts features. Family members and friends can create their own account, complete with its own apps, settings, and game saves, and log in or out much like on a PC.
Android 4.2 also introduces a new panorama mode for photographers called Google Sphere. Users can upload their shots onto Google Maps, and the improved Google Now will even suggest great spots to take photographs from depending on your current location.
