The last full "Elder Scrolls" game was release 4 years ago. That was the "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" - a game considered to be one of the best ones to come out ever. And now, amidst the clamor for a sixth title, Bethesda appears to still have nothing to show to eager gamers, although it has tossed in "scraps" here and there (read: "Elder Scrolls Legends" and "Elder Scrolls Online") to appease them. However, nothing apparently compares to the satisfaction of sinking one's gaming teeth into a fresh, full "Elder Scrolls" game.

Recently, Bethesda VP of Marketing Pete Hines told DualShockers that "Elder Scrolls 6" is nowhere near close to completion. As such, fans should not expect a new launch for what would seem a long time.

"Currently Bethesda is working on 'Fallout 4,' and that takes the entire studio, which is 100% focused on it," the site said. "Hines believes that it'll be a 'very long time,' before the team will talk about what they'll be work on after 'Fallout 4'."

That bit of news is sure bound to disappoint fans of the game, especially in this age of fast product cycles and turnovers. Apparently, gamers cannot expect developers to churn out new material as fast as mobile gadget makers.

"They still have the game to finish, mod support to do, hopefully there will be DLC, and a million other things to do right now," DualShockers added, revealing also that Bethesda "always focuses on one game" and that the studio still has pretty much the same number of people on its team - "a hundred and something" - in the past few years. In fact, the studio is "roughly the same size as the team that shipped Skyrim."

It's a known fact that video games, especially those of high caliber, do take time to develop. There's a repetitive cycle of testing and improving involved that stretches out the development process. And even after going through years of development, there's no guarantee a title won't be launched without niggling glitches. It can be said that the refinement of the game still goes on a bit after release until it pretty much runs decently on various mediums. And this is probably a reason "Elder Scrolls 6" can't be expected to come out anytime soon, on top of the other reasons mentioned.

Fortunately, there are gamers and pundits who understand this long gestation process, like Digital Trends' Will Fulton.

"While hardcore 'Elder Scrolls' fans that were not as excited by 'The Elder Scrolls Online' may be disappointed by the wait for another single-player game, I would much rather that Bethesda take its time to make the game they want to make, rather than giving in to the annual release schedules that have mired other AAA franchises in mediocrity," he noted.
