At the recently concluded Gamescom 2015, Mircosoft announced some major announcements for the popular fighting game "Killer Instinct."
According to Polygon "Killer Instinct" season 3 will be released by March of 2016. Executives at Microsoft claim that the long wait time between season 2 and season 3 can be accounted to the content of season 3 being larger than the previous seasons.
With that being said, Microsoft also confirmed that season 3 will have special guest characters joining the already growing roster of the game. Ultra-Combo reports that the first of these characters will be Rash from the "Battletoads" franchise. While for some gamers this choice of characters might come to as surprise, it is however not something out of the scope of possibility. This is because Rare, the company responsible for the original "Killer Instinct" games, is the owners of the "Battletoads" franchise and is also owned by Microsoft.
Mircosoft revealed that Rash will be able to be accessed by gamers starting August 4, 2015 and will be available for online play until September 8, 2015. Players who have purchased any "Killer Instinct" content such as season bundles, characters, accessories, colors, or even "Killer Instinct Gold" will have access to Rash when he becomes available for use. Gamers who have purchased Rare Replay will have to launch the "Battletoads" game and unlock the achievement "Do You have Battletoads" to unlock Rash.
Rash is to play as a rush down type character with fast and hard hitting moves similar to those of Chief Thunder. He will have several moves inspired by the "Battletoads" games such as Wrecking Ball, and his famous Big Bad Boot. His look is similar to how the character looked in the 8-bit side scroller with a 3D effect given to it.
Rash is usually considered the leader of the Battletoads and stands as the teams tactian as well. In the original "Battletoads" game he was the default character for player one. He is normally depicted as a light green muscular toad with spike armbands and signature sun glasses. "Battletoads" is infamous for being one of the harder games on the original Nintendo Entertainment System and was released in 1991. The characters gained a small amount of mainstream popularity with the game as cartoons and even comic books were released about the toads.
As with previous characters gamers will have the chance to give feedback on Rash once he is released for online play. Microsoft has announced that depending on player feedback the look and gameplay of Rash can change before he is officially released during "Killer Instinct" season 3. Currently no other new character information has been given out.
