For the first time since 1851, the America's Cup World Series is headed back to England.
Britain's luck hasn't changed since the prestigious sailing race inaugural took place; then, a fleet of British ships lost to an American schooner as Queen Victoria watched. While there's no guaranteed the Land Rover BAR team will break the winless streak - or that Queen Elizabeth will accompany Prince William and Kate Middleton to Sunday's event - they are certainly a favorite going in.
Four-time Olympic champion Sir Ben Ainslie led Oracle Team USA to an America's Cup victory two years ago, edging out a relentless Emirates Team New Zealand by a 9-8 margin. Repeating the feat is easier said than done.
"For me it's been a lifelong ambition to win the America's Cup," Ainslie said in speaking with The Guardian. "I was fortunate to be with Jimmy [Spithill] and his team to win it last time and now we want to win it for Britain and bring it back home."
Aside from selecting the race's next venue, the winning team also gets one step closer to qualifying for the 2017 America's Cup in Bermuda. It'll be interesting to see how Spithill's Oracle team performs without Ainslie, or whether Emirates can bounce back from the heartbreaking loss to the United States.
