Google is giving tribute to the late Keith Haring--graffiti and pop artist well known in the 80's decade--by displaying his art style on Google Doodle .
Haring was born on May 4, 1958 in Reading, Pennsylvania and it was only twenty years later that he first gained attention for his work...in New York City's subways.
The pop artist would chalk drawings throughout the subway system and at times would produce several dozens of white chalk images easily visible to the underground commuters.
The incessant flow of drawings, normally depicting strong messages of life and unity, soon became familiar to commuters and from that point on, Haring would find himself being invited to participate in various group and solo exhibitions nationally and internationally.
Haring's artistic style normally consisted in bold lines, vivid colors, and active figures just like the example displayed on Google Doodle.
The piece of art he is mostly remembered by is called 'Radiant Baby' that depicts a crawling baby emitting light rays. In New York City, one of Haring's well known murals, "Crack is Wack", is still visible today along FDR Drive.
During the 80's decade, the artist created several artworks meant for hospitals, orphanages, and other charities in various cities around the world and he also held art workshops for minors in New York, Amsterdam, London, Tokyo and Bordeaux.
After being diagnosed with AIDS in 1988, Haring founded the Keith Haring Foundation intended to assist children and other AIDS organizations.
On February 16, 1990 Haring's bout with the disease ended when he died at the young age of 31.
If alive today, he would be 54 years old.
