New details about Guillermo Del Toro's "Pacific Rim 2" have been unveiled and it looks like the sequel to the giant robot vs kaiju movie may have a different title.

According to Sandy Schaefer of Screen Rant,  it has been confirmed that Del Toro and the rest of his crew will begin filming on "Pacific Rim 2" starting November 2015 in Pinewood Toronto Studios. The movie could be reportedly retitled to "Pacific Rim: Maelstrom." It has been noted on the report that Del Toro has been preparing for the production of "Pacific Rim 2" after his successful promotion of his latest film "Crimson Peak."

Meanwhile, Realty Today has reported that the plot details for "Pacific Rim 2" will be set a few years after the first film in which the Jaeger pilots have stopped the Kaiju threat in Hong Kong. As was noted on the report, Del Toro confirmed that the main focus of the sequel will be in "The Drift" were the Kaijus were made by an alien race.

Realty Today reported that "Pacific Rim 2" will explore more of the Kaiju's origins rather than the Jaeger pilots. According to a report by Kpopstarz, "Pacific Rim 2" will have a time-travel subplot as the Jaeger pilots will have allies from the future to combat the Kaijus and the aliens that created them.

In a different report by Byron Cayatano of KpopStarz, an animated series based on the first "Pacific Rim" film has been confirmed and that the "Pacific Rim" animated series will serve as a bridge between "Pacific Rim" and "Pacific Rim 2."

Meanwhile, the Venture Capital Post stated that "Sons of Anarchy" and "Pacific Rim" star Charlie Hunnam will not return in the sequel as Raleigh Becket. The media outlet also reported that Del Toro quickly addressed Hunnam's departure in the sequel by saying that the characters in "Pacific Rim 2" will take a different journey within the film and that Dunham's character, Raleigh, already solved his problem during the first movie.

According to Slash Film, however, the production of the film is still in the early state and the report points out that it is uncertain as to whether Hunnam will join the sequel for a brief cameo or for a possible bigger role. It should be noted though that Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Burn Gorman will reprise their roles as Jaeger pilot Mako Mori, scientist Dr. Newton Geizler and Dr Hermann Gottlieb, respectively.

"Pacific Rim 2" is scheduled to be shown in cinemas on Aug 4, 2017.
