The upcoming Marvel movie, "Doctor Strange," has been making a buzz on the Internet. With the confirmed lead that the sorcerer supreme will be played by Benedict Cumberbacht, the question now is: who will be Doctor Strange's female lead?
Speculations are coming in left and right but only one is noteworthy. It would seem that Rachel McAdams might play as the female lead in the movie, as reported on Movie Pilot.
The 36-year-old Canadian actress is no new comer to the film industry. Her repertoire of films and television roles are top notch the goes well with her impressive acting. Her career began to gather attention on the film "Mean Girls" as Lindsay Lohan's opposite. McAdam's acting continued to blossom when she played the role of Allison Hamilton in the highly acclaimed movie The Notebook which was based on a novel of the same title. With multiple Teens Choice Award nominations and wins, it won't be difficult for McAdams to land the female lead role for "Doctor Strange".
According to Cinema Blend, if McAdams was offered a role as the female lead, there are five characters she might portray.
The first female lead in Doctor Strange's list of companions is Clea. She is highly attuned in the ways of magic due to her being the niece of Durmammu, the Sorcerer Supremes' strongest enemy. Clea betrayed Durmammu and became Doctor Strange's closest ally and future wife. The couple lived on Earth for a short while but most of the time they are in the Dark Dimensions. Clea then opted to stay there to lead the resistance against Durmammu.
Next on the roster would be Victoria Bentley. She is the apprentice Doctor Strange never took in because of her dangerous potential. Stranger told Victoria to be on her way but she always gets drawn back into his life. Victoria had feelings for Strange but the Sorcerer's true love is Clea.
Morgana Blessing is the almost love interest for Stephen. She is a well-known author and a non-magic author who later fell in love with Strange's vampire brother, Victor. One downside from dating a vampire is that she is forced to get her blood drained for Victor on a regular basis.
If Marvel does a gender switch, then McAdams could find herself playing the role of Agamotto. It is known that the Orb of Agamotto is Stephen's most prized tool that houses the entity named, well, Agamotto. Though fans know that out of the entities, Oshtur is the one who usually takes female form, Marvel might do something interesting and unique.
The cap off the list, speculations might actually go for an original character. If Marvel pursues this route, fans will have more questions as this mystery character does not exist in the comic book. Although, this could be a good move for Marvel. Dr. Erik Selvig Darcy from the Thor films were not part of the comic book, yet both of them are entertaining addition.
All these information are but rumours. Whether Rachel McAdams gets the role is solely up to the people running the show. Marvel will release Doctor Strange on Nov 4, 2016.
