There are rumors that Samsung is planning to release the Galaxy S7 in the second half of 2015.

Newsis, a media publication in South Korea reported that according to insiders, Samsung is already working on the new Galaxy S7 two to three months earlier than scheduled. Based on previous releases, the company regularly releases new Galaxy S flagship smartphones during the first quarter of the year. However, if the company indeed commenced development at an earlier time, it may be the first time that Samsung featured two Galaxy S models in a single year.

Phone Arena wrote that Samsung generally develops its flagship models over a 12-month cycle. However, the company may have adjusted the timeline to compete better with the Apple iPhone 6S series. The South Korean company is allegedly poised to feature the Galaxy S7, Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus for its high-end devices category.

One rumor stated that the Galaxy S7 may have curved screens or even a foldable model, although many users expect the design to remain close to the Galaxy S6, based on a report by Tech Radar. The product will most likely launch with the new Android M OS. The S7 is also said to feature a 4K screen or a minimum resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The device may also have 32GB, 64GB or 128GB storage options and 4GB or 6GB of RAM. It may include the new Mediatek processor, a 3,500 mAh battery and an onscreen button, which will replace the physical Home button.

One of the biggest claims involve the S7 having an iris scanner, which will be primarily for security purposes that allows users to access the phone. Android Authority reported that Samsung partnered with Stanford Research Institute International to work on the new biometric security feature. SRI International recently announced that it exclusive licensed Samsung to use its Iris on the Move (IOM) technology on its mobile devices. Reportedly, the pure iris-based technology is over 1,000 time more accurate than fingerprint scanning.

There have not been a lot of news regarding the Galaxy S7’s specs and apps, but Samsung is expected to keep hinting these before the official launch date announcement. In the meantime, the company has been enjoying the warm reception of its current flagship models, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Samsung has been featuring several iterations and versions of the two flagships with very good results.
