It has been years since Apple released its iPod Touch 5th Gen. Is this the right time to release an iPod Touch 6th Gen?
Recently, rumors are swirling that Apple would be releasing the 6th Gen very soon.
The new music player was being eyed to come out this month. Master Herald even detailed it would come out during the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) which has been set from June 8 to 12. But the new iPod Touch was nowhere to be found.
Cross Map said that this only indicates two possible scenarios. First, the new iPod Touch would come out on a later date. The news outlet said that a source revealed that the new iPod Touch would come out "later this year." Second, the 5th Gen might be Apple's last and it's time to say goodbye to a new potential music buddy. Cross Map said that the 5th Gen did not actually do well, so this might have caused Apple to cancel new iPod Touch developments.
Product Reviews said that a release of a new 6th Gen iPod Touch became less likely after Apple redesigned its website. The news report also mentioned the lesser marketing strategies Apple has for its music players and the falling iPod sales due to higher iPhone demand. However, there is still a possibility that Apple would surprise fans, releasing the new iPod this September.
On June 11, Master Herald reported that since the iPod Touch 6th Generation did not show up during the June event, it is likely that it would come out in September, adding that it is "almost sure" about it. Stabley Times last June 3 said that the new iPod Touch is expected to come out along the new iPhone 6S in fall.
We have already discussed some of the specs and features expected to be in the new iPod Touch in our previous reports. The new iPod Touch has been dubbed as the next "perfect" music and entertainment device. It is said to be water-resistant. Some even bet it would be an iPhone and iPod turned into one. All of these specs and features remained unconfirmed at the moment since almost everything was based on rumors and Apple has continued to be mum about the matter.
According to Cross Map, the next iPod Touch 6th Generation will be thinner than its predecessor and will highlight its colorful plastic back. The device is said to be available in a variety of colors - pink, yellow, orange, green, blue, silver, and space grey.
The iPod Touch 6th Gen is expected to get an A9 processor, the new iOS 9, Apple's digital assistant Siri and the Touch ID fingerprint sensor. The device is expected to get an 8-megapixel main camera and be available in two sizes - 4.7-inches and 5.5-inches. Price is expected to start at $250.
