The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is reportedly in the works and, once done, is set to become the thinnest tablet in the world.
In May, OnLeaks leaked photos of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, featuring the same metal frame that the Galaxy S6 has. China's Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center revealed that the device, which will be called the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0, will measure 198 x 134 x 5.4 mm and weigh 260 grams, which would make it the world's slimmest tablet. Tech Radar also shared that the tablet will have an 8-inch AMOLED display with a 1536 x 1048 screen resolution. Expectedly, there will also be a bigger 9.7-inch model of the Galaxy Tab S2, although the screen resolution has not yet been presented. The device will run on the Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. It will also include an octa-core processor, clocked at 1.9 GHz, 3GB of RAM, LTE connectivity and 16GB of expandable internal memory. The Tab S2 is said to have an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera.
Android Headlines wrote that the screen of the new device has a 4:3 aspect ratio and the resolution of both the 8.0-inch and 9.7-inch models would be 2048 x 1536 pixels. Metallic elements are expected in the design, since the Tab S2 will be influenced by the Galaxy S6. The back cover material cannot accurately be determined yet, but the frame may be aluminum while the back is plastic. Based on photos that were revealed by the Chinese Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center, the front area of the tablet is mostly screen. The speaker grille is found at the top as well as the brand name. At the bottom are the capacitative buttons and Home button.
Android Authority wrote that based on the leaked photos by OnLeaks, the supposedly premium product appears like a baseline-budget model. Previously, there were rumors that the QHD SuperAMOLED screen will be coupled with an Exynos 5433 32-Bit CPU. However, the 7420 chip seemed more likely due to its 64-bit processing that will match well with the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. The memory can also be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. The battery for the 8-inch version will be 3,580 mAh, while the 9.7-inch model will have a 5,870 mAh battery.
Provided that the leak is authentic, Samsung may be standardizing its line of tablets. Fans will have to wait for the official announcement and the specifics on the upcoming device.
