The embargo on the Halo 4 reviews has finally been lifted and the critics are buzzing over the title.

IGN gave the title a 9.8 and stated that despite Master Chief's latest adventure being in new hands, "Halo has been rebuilt. It has been redefined. And it has been reinvigorated." They praised an "impeccably paced campaign," and stated that the franchise's famous multiplayer is better than ever.

Forbes enjoyed the title as well but gave it an 8/10. They stated "Gameplay feels as smooth as it's ever been, the engine looks great and the maps, multiplayer modes and ranking system are all well put together. This is a game that fully understands the fundamentals of a good shooter." However, they noted that the franchise is seeing fewer steps forward and noted that the title does little to reinvent itself. In their own words "For the first time, Halo feels like a follower, rather than a leader."

Ars Technica noted that the game has a "sparkling new storyline" and stated that the game requires a great more strategizing that mindless action. The multiplayer was better than ever for Ars Technica as well even though they felt that the campaign was a bit on the short side.

1Up gave the title an A- and while they also loved the multiplayer and the new gameplay mechanics, they noted that the story was messy and lacking in cohesion.

Gamespot gave the title a 9.0 and stated that "a thrilling, moving story and intense competitive multiplayer help Halo 4 continue the series' reign as one of the premier shooter franchises." They did however feel that the Spartan Ops missions were too "fleeting."

Halo 4 is out on November 4th for the Xbox 360. Based on the positive reception, it will likely make the next installment Halo 5, one of the most anticipated titles in coming years.
