The heavy-duty Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is set to release soon, that is, if rumors are true.
Sam Mobile revealed two allegedly leaked photos of the upcoming smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy Active S6 is the rugged sibling of the Galaxy S6, specifically made for the outdoors and sports enthusiasts. Based on the images, the device seemed to have placed the rear camera and heart rate monitor in the same spots as the Galaxy S6. The loudspeaker appeared to have been transferred to the back of the phone and there are no hints of a fingerprint sensor, which was also lacking in the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active.
Based on a previous exclusive report by Sam Mobile, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active (SM-G890A) will feature a 5.1 QHD Super AMOLED+ display which is similar to the Galaxy S6. It will also have the Exynos 7420 SoC, 32 GB of internal memory, 3GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel and 5-megapixel camera combo and an upgraded 3500mAh battery. The smartphone will measure 73.6 x 146.9 x 8.8 mm, which is slightly bigger compared to the Galaxy S6 at 70.5 x 143.4 x 6.8 mm. Based on the model number, SM-G890A, the S6 Active will be available first on AT&T networks.
Sam Mobile further wrote that the handset will most likely be MIL-STD-810G certified to guarantee users of its tough and rugged construction. The Galaxy S6 Active will be resistant to rain, dust, salt, vibration, humidity, solar radiation, transport shock and thermal shock.
However, Tech Times noticed that the two supposedly leaked photos of the black S6 Active were quite the same as the leaked images of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active in 2014. The screws, physical buttons and heavy-duty case was also shown along with an AT&T logo on the back of the phone below the camera and heart rate sensor.
Compared to the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge which do not include a microSD expansion slot, removable battery or waterproof properties, the S6 Active might bring back a few of these features, Tech Times assumed. It may also run on the new Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. Samsung is believed to be in the process of providing an Android Lollipop update for the S5 Active.
There's no official statement from Samsung yet as to the specific launch date of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active, but users expect it to be pegged before May ends, considering how the S5 Active was announced around the same time in 2014, Tech Times added.
