A new detail about Lorde's second album has been revealed by the singer herself. In a recent Tumblr post, the singer and songwriter from New Zealand said that her "next body of work" will be "very exciting and scary but so validating." Lorde also acknowledged her absence from the music scene at the beginning of this year, a time which the songstress spent on doing "a bunch of swimming and driving around and being salty."
The 18-year-old singer is back in the studio to make new music after embarking on her Pure Heroine concert tour, Billboard reported. Her song titled "Yellow Flicker Beat" is also included in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" soundtrack.
The Tumblr post also revealed Lorde's music inspiration in a recent studio session -- Robyn's 2010 single "Dancing On My Own." As the singer recounted, she was hanging out with some "new friends" at the time and she asked them "which one song they would send into space, to live on forever, if they had to." Someone answered "Perfect Day" by Lou Reed and someone else picked "God Only Knows" by "The Beach Boys."
"It's happy and sad, fiery and independent but vulnerable and small, joyous even when a heart is breaking," Lorde said on Tumblr, describing "Dancing On My Own."
Concluding her post on the social media site, the artist wrote: "Thank you for loving and living inside my music. Know that I'm taking my time to make the new stuff as good as I can. Know that music is still making my heart skip every day. Can't wait to hang out soon. Love you. xxx L."
According to Billboard, there's no official timetable yet for the release of the follow-up album of Lorde's 2013 hit "Pure Heroine," which popularized "Royals" and "Team." Producer Joel Little, however, confirmed last week that the singer is working on her sophomore album.
"We've written a couple of songs," said Little, as quoted by Billboard. "We haven't done a whole lot of production on it yet, we just want to make sure the songs are really good and try and experiment with some new things -- just different beats and whatever occurs in the studio."
At the 2015 Golden Globe Awards, Lorde said of her next album, "For me I have to kind of write a project lyrically before I attack it musically. So I've written a lot of amazing stuff and I'm just tentatively starting to make it music," NME quoted.
Lorde's most recent high profile public appearance was at the Met Gala 2015. She also attended Florence + The Machine's surprise show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg prior to the band's "Saturday Night Live" gig, Page Six reported.
