The newest episode of 'Grey's Anatomy,' entitled "I Saw Her Standing There," had the doctors of Seattle Grace-Mercy West dealing with a lot of relationship drama, as well as some spice. For some couples, the episode gave them the opportunity to grow closer in their relationships, while others spiced things up as much as they could.
Meredith and Derek
After surviving a fatal plane crash, career-changing hand injury and move into a new house, it's a wonder that Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) have kept it as together has they have. In Thursday's episode the couple seemed better than ever as they enjoyed family life with their little girl Zola at home and worked through their hardships at work. But being how things are in the world of 'Grey's Anatomy,' the couple experienced a minor (almost inconsequential) bump on the road.
Trying to shelter Derek, or as he put it "bubble-wrap" him, Meredith attempts to keep an exciting and tricky tumor surgery a secret from him. Too bad the newest batch of Seattle Grace-Mercy West interns can't keep their mouths shut. After observing the Meredith's surgery, which she manages to conquer, Derek tells his wife that she doesn't have to keep things from him just because he can't perform surgeries.
Relieved that she can finally confide in her husband about all her new surgeries as a first year attending, Meredith spills all the exciting details of the complicated surgery. In return, she gets a kiss from Derek, who is basking in his "contact high."
Callie and Arizona
Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) have not had the easiest time following May's plane crash that resulted in the death of the father of their baby, Mark Sloan (Eric Dane), and the loss of Arizona's leg. But in the second episode in a row the couple seems to have taken another step towards recovery.
Arizona finally makes her way back to Seattle Grace-Mercy West for the first fitting of her new prosthetic leg. There she is forced to come to terms with her new reality. During an attempt to stand on her own in her first prosthetic, Arizona falls and is caught by Alex (Justin Chambers), who tells her that the pediatrics department needs her and that she needs to give Callie a chance.
It seems that she gives in to Alex's request, and in a sweet moment asks Callie, who has been sleeping in Mark's old apartment, to watch a baking show with her.
April and Jackson
Perhaps the steamiest couple during Thursday's episode, April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams) can't seem to keep their hands off each other or their clothes on. Taking every opportunity to engage in hot secret sex, the unlikely pair attempts to tell themselves that each time is "the last time."
While the verdict is still out whether the two will become a committed couple, their ongoing sexscapades don't seem to have an end in site.
Richard and Catherine
After getting together during the board exams, it seems Richard (James Pickens Jr) and Catherine (Debbie Allen) are doing just fine as friends with benefits. Despite being told by Catherine's son Jackson that he'll "be watching," Richard is determined to continue his sexual relationship with his old friend.
Christina and Dr. Parker
Christina (Sandra Oh) and new boss Dr. Parker (Steven Culp) begin the episode as "sex friends" as she adjusts to her new job at the Mayo Clinic. That is, until she realizes that he is using her to get rid of her new best friend, the elderly Dr. Thomas. In an abnormal show of compassion, for Christina at least, she shows up Dr. Parker to help keep her new confidant another day at the hospital.
The sexy relationship fizzles out before fans of Christina and husband Owen (Kevin McKidd) have anything to really worry about. Speaking of Owen, the episode finds the lonely chief-of-staff make a dramatic move to Derek's trailer in the woods, in an attempt to finally escape the loneliness of his firehouse apartment.
The season's next episode, entitled "Beautiful Doom," will force Meredith to finally deal with the death of her sister Lexie (Chyler Leigh) with the help of her best friend Christina. You can catch episode five, "Beautiful Doom," in two weeks on Thursday, November 8 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
