According to recent reports, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 will soon be getting the 5.1.1 version of the newest Android OS, the Lollipop update. GSM Arena said this came from Google's factory images for Nexus devices.
Well, at the moment, the 5.1.1 update has already been made available for the Nexus Player. But Google last updated its list last Thursday. And based on what we see, the Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 10 (2012), and Nexus 7 Wi-Fi would also be getting the newest update.
If you still don't believe this, check it for yourself here. The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the three devices has the build number LMY47V.
"The new firmware mostly brings bunch of bug fixes and improvements...Google has been actively working with smartphone and tablet markers for successful rollout of the Android Lollipop to existing devices. It is a thumb rule that the Nexus devices are the first to get any new updates. The OTAs are usually meant for everyone. Factory images on the other hand, are targeted at Android developers and enthusiasts who want perform a clean install of the firmware," GSM Arena further explained.
Android Geeks earlier reported that Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, and Nexus 9 would also be getting the update, though we still could not confirm whether this would indeed happen. The news outlet said the 5.1.1 Lollipop, as expected, would again roll out in phases and that it would arrive via OTA. Users will then receive a notification about a new available system update. Users will then have to download and install it. Once completed, the device would reboot. Manual check is also encouraged. All users have to do is go to Settings, then to About device, then System updates, and check updates.
Android Geeks said users should not get their hopes up as the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 "is just a minor update," as its primary mission is just to fix bugs. The 5.1 version on the other hand was for maintenance. Plus it also bring in some new features and some notifications system improvements.
Yibada on the other hand reported that there were also issues with the new 5.1.1 Lollipop update. Well, there has been some "general all round performance increment" after the update, Yibada claims, but there are still problems like app crashing, issues with touch screen performance, and lagging.
We still can't confirm when the actual roll out of the update would happen.
