Britney Spears's former "manager" Sam Lufti testified Wednesday saying the pop star was on drugs and he was the one person who tried to save her from ruining her life and career.
Lufti is suing the Spears family for libel and breach of contract. Spears's mother Lynne allegedly defamed Lufti in her book. He is also suing for a percentage he said the family promised him.
According to the Daily Mail, Lufti said he never gave Spears drugs, including the amphetamine Adderall. Lufti said he does take Adderall, but insisted he never gave any to Spears. Lynne paints a different story of Lufti. She allegedly accused him being a "Svengali-like figure" who manipulated her daughter.
Spears suffered a very public breakdown in 2007. She was constantly photographed and caught on camera acting erratic, shaving her head, buying Starbucks every day and walking around with no shoes. She also was criticized for her performance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards for being dazed and overweight. Despite this, her album sales never stalled.
Lufti, who says he met Spears in a nightclub, also said he was Spears's saving grace through her downward spiral.
Last week, Lufti made a startling accusation saying Spears was a drug addict and she downed up to 30 pills a day. He said she shaved her head in order to beat a drug test.
"She liked to use amphetamines. Mostly everything that went wrong was because of this drug," Lutfi's lawyer Joe Schleimer told the jury.
Spears has since rebounded from the drama and has gone on to star in a record-breaking world tour release albums and is now a judge on Simon Cowell's "X-Factor."
