Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 will reportedly receive the 5.1.1 version of the new Android Lollipop update. This came from Android Geeks which speculated that the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 would also be getting the update as well.
"Good news, guys, the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 is on its way to you. Of course, the new firmware will also be made available for Google's latest Nexus devices, the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9," to quote the April 24 report of the news site, adding that the Android update has already been out for the Nexus Player.
The 5.1.1 Lollipop update, says Tech Times, has been released first for the Nexus player. Those who own Nexus player who would like to update their software can download it (with build number LMV47V) it here. Or they could just wait for the OTA to arrive.
Android Geeks said that all Nexus phones are expected to get the 5.1 version and will then be updated again to 5.1.1 soon. Though the Nexus 9 is an exception as it is allegedly set to get the 5.1.1 update straight.
"Even after they updated their devices to Android 5.1, many users have reported issues such as camera crashes and the notorious memory leak. Hopefully, the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 will bring a fix to most of these annoyances," Android Geeks said.
The news outlet said the 5.1.1 Lollipop, as expected, would again roll out in phases and that it would arrive via OTA. Users will then receive a notification about a new available system update. Users will then have to download and install it. Once completed, the device would reboot. Manual check is also encouraged. All users have to do is go to Settings, then to About device, then System updates, and check updates.
Android Geeks said users should not get their hopes up as the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 "is just a minor update," as its primary mission is just to fix bugs. The 5.1 version on the other hand was for maintenance. Plus it also bring in some new features and some notifications system improvements.
The 5.0 version meanwhile bring in new animations, a Battery Saver Mode, better battery details, multi-user feature, lock screen notifications, Screen Pinning, Smart Lock features, Quick settings, Overview, among others. Android Geeks' Riciu Andrei calls the Lollipop update as "the most important update Google's mobile software platform has received to date."
