Sony Xperia smartphones are about to receive an exciting new update.
Phone Arena has reported that the Android 5.0.2, also known as Android L or Lollipop, will be available for the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, Sony Xperia Z1 and Sony Xperia Z1 Compact soon.
The update will be distributed only in selected regions and will reportedly provide build number 14.5.A.0.242. Some of the things that users can expect from the latest update include a new Material Design, the new 64-bit ART runtime complier that will open apps faster, Lock Screen notifications, Project Volta for extended battery life, a new "Recent Apps" screen, and many more.
The Android 5.0.2 is quite a large file so users are recommended to link to the internet via Wi-Fi connection before beginning the update process. Users should also charge their battery to at least 50 percent before starting the download and installing the new Android OS.
GSM Arena reported that Sony is also adding more devices to the Lollipop update list at a faster rate. The Sony Xperia Z3 Dual will also find the Android 5.0 Lollipop update available soon. The file size is 738MB and users are required to have at least 1.2GB of free space in their internal memory before they should begin the update process. Downloading and installation should only take about 20 minutes.
The update has become available in certain areas starting April 13, 2015. In the following week, the Android L 5.0 is set to be available for the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra and Sony Xperia C3 as well. In the following weeks after that, the update will also be provided for users of the Sony Xperia Z, Sony Xperia ZL, Sony Xperia ZR and Sony Xperia Tablet Z, based on the same report by GSM Arena.
Gospel Herald reported that aside from Sony Xperia users, LG users will also get to enjoy the new Android L 5.0 update. The LG G3 Verizon Wireless model will also get the new update. The LG flagship phone will also be expected to have the same variety of new features as its Sony counterparts. The update will be provided over-the-air on Verizon LG G3 phones. Reportedly, LG G2 users received their Lollipop earlier.
The timing and availability of Android L 5.0 may differ depending on the carrier and the market. Users can get the latest news and updates by following the official Sony blog and @SonyMobileNews as the release continues in the next few weeks.
