On the heels of the news of Taylor Swift topping the Billboard Music Awards nominations, it's been revealed that the singer's mother has been "diagnosed with cancer," as the "Shake It Off" hitmaker shared on a social media post.

"I'm saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer. I'd like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know," part of her official Tumblr post said.

This comes as a serious emotional blow to T-Swift and her fans, as it's a known fact that mom Andrea Finlay, 57, has always been there for the 25-year-old, accompanying her in many, if not all, of her engagements and tours.

Tay also explained why her mom gave the cancer revelation the green light.

"She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they've got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle," she went on to say. "Or peace of mind in knowing that they're healthy and there's nothing to worry about. She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour. She's got an important battle to fight.

Taylor had also revealed that she and her brother asked their mom to visit the doctor as a Christmas gift to her and brother Austin. And it was in that check up that the cancer was discovered.

While Tay didn't give further details on her mom's condition, it may only be a matter of time before the public learns more about the situation, as the "1989" artist mentioned that she turns her experiences into music.

"Usually when things happen to me, I process them and then write music about how I feel, and you hear it much later," she noted in her post.

We'll be hearing more about it later, then.

MailOnline had pointed out that the singer had written about her relationship with Andrea. Her second studio effort, "Fearless," featured a track that revealed her love for her mom, "The Best Day."

"She's always been the friend that was always there," T-Swift had also revealed in an interview. "There were times when, in middle school and junior high, that I didn't have a lot of friends. But my mom was always my friend."

In the wake of the revelation, messages of support poured in from social media.

"#PrayForMamaSwift was a trending hashtag Thursday on Twitter, where Swift's legions of fans offered prayers and messages of support. Within an hour and a half, Swift's tweet about her mom had been retweeted more than 21,000 times," CNN said.
