Samsung has been hard at work updating its range of devices up to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, with the upgrade rolling out to Galaxy S3s worldwide as we speak. The electronics manufacturer, however, has not forgotten about older devices. Samsung Sweden recently stated that Jelly Bean will hit the Galaxy S2 in November and the original Galaxy Note sometime in the fourth quarter.
Samsung Sweden also promised a Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet in the fourth quarter.
We are currently in the fourth quarter of 2012, so expect the Galaxy S2 to get Jelly Bean first, with the Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note 10.1 receiving their facelifts before the end of 2012. All three devices currently run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and will be upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, according to Samsung Sweden.
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean offers a number of improvements that will be sure to please Android users everywhere. Thanks to Project Butter, Jelly Bean will improve performance and make the interface smoother and more pleasing to the eye. Jelly Bean also introduces Google Now, a Siri-like voice assistant. It will also come with a new notifications bar, two home screen modes, and a sizable pop-up screen.
Despite this being good news, Samsung devices will still be lagging in the Android race to those directly branded by Google. Google has already released Android 4.1.2, a minor upgrade to the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean operating system. Google is also expected to debut Android 4.2 at an October 29 event that also promises an LG Nexus 4 smartphone and a 32GB Nexus 7 tablet.
