If you're a Sony Xperia smartphone owner, you've probably been wondering if your handset will receive Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Sony has finally officially responded on the topic stating that older models, including those from 2011, will not be receiving Jelly Bean. Those who purchase Sony smartphones from 2012 can expect to receive Jelly Bean in the first quarter of 2013.

Sony released a statement on Sony Xperia Product blog outlining its plans for updating Xperia smartphones.

"Our latest models, Xperia T and Xperia TX are shipping across global markets as you read this post, and Xperia V is on the way shortly - these smartphones will begin to receive the upgrade to Jelly Bean from mid-Q1 2013," wrote Sony.

"Next up, we can confirm the global versions of Xperia S, Xperia acro S, Xperia ion, Xperia P, Xperia go and Xperia J will be upgraded to Android 4.1* - we will be back with detailed timings for these in due course," Sony continued.

Of course, as with most good news, Sony had some bad news to add.

"We were glad to provide the Android 4.0.4 upgrade for our 2011 Xperia portfolio across most markets and the majority of models but, after thorough evaluation, we have concluded they will not be upgraded beyond Ice Cream Sandwich," Sony said.

So there you have it. It looks like the Xperia T, Xperia TX, Xperia S, Xperia acro S, Xperia ion, Xperia P, Xperia go, and Xperia J will be the Sony smartphones that will have Jelly Bean.
