It wasn't too long ago that we got a hint that Google is working with Samsung on a 10-inch, high-end version of its Nexus 7 tablet. This 'Nexus 10' has not been officially confirmed by Google, but the move seems natural, and now a piece of evidence from Picasa suggests that the Nexus 10 is already being manufactured.
A look at the EXIF data on Picasa shows that the snapshot was taken by a model named "Nexus 10" and the camera is listed as being "Google." A look at the Google+ page for the image shows the camera as "Nexus 10." The resolutions indicate a 5-megapixel camera.
Not exactly hard-hitting evidence, and as website TechRadar points out, EXIF data can be manipulated and faked rather easily. But this isn't the only report about a Nexus 10.
A recent interview with NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim on CNET revealed that Google was interested in creating a more direct competitor to Apple's 9.7-inch iPad.
"It's going to be a high-end device. They'll partner with Samsung and cobrand it with Samsung," Richard Shim, an NPD DisplaySearch analyst, told CNET.
According to Shim, the new Nexus 10 will sport a display that should outshine Apple's Retina display. With a resolution of 2,560X1,600, the Nexus 10 would have around 299 pixels per inch (ppi), greater than the iPad Retina display's 264 ppi.
Samsung and Google have teamed up in the past to create the popular Galaxy Nexus smartphone.
The Nexus 10 will most likely be priced around the iPad's $499 price range. Google is also set to release a 32GB model of the Nexus 7 that should cost $250, either replacing the 16GB model or pushing the cost of the 16GB Nexus 7 down to $200. Google is also said to be working on a $99 tablet.
Would you purchase a Nexus 10 over an Apple iPad?
