UFC President Dana White was not happy with how the match between Drew Dober and Leandro Silva turned out at UFC Fight Night 62.
White said at the post-event press conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in a report by MMA Junkie, "I know how athletic commissions are, and they like to protect their own, but everybody in this room and everybody on this planet knows that was bullsh-t."
He continued, "The UFC can't do anything, but it was horrible, It was ridiculous that anybody would think that was a tap."
He said, "That thing should be overturned and it should be a no contest. We're going to pay the kid his win money. He was actually just slipping out of it and he was in top position."
Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (CABMMA) regulates UFC matches held in Brazil.
Yahoo! Sports reported that Silva was declared the victor in the lightweight match via guillotine choke submission. However, Dober did not actually tap out and was trying to change positions when referee Eduardy Herdy suddenly stopped the bout, believing that Dober tapped. It happened during the second round when Silva tried the move from the bottom but was not properly in position to result to a submission. Dober was not in danger at that time and was strategizing his way out of the Silva's grasp. There was no actual tap or any action that even closely resembled a tap when Herdy stopped the fight. Majority of the audience were confused about the referee's call.
White resorted to Twitter to vent out his frustrations over Herdy.
White tweeted, "Now there is a guy who should NEVER ref again!!!!"
White also spoke at the press conference about Herdy, in the same Yahoo! Sports report, "That referee was so bad. Anybody that follows the sport knows that guy wasn't in any danger right there. He was actually just slipping out of it. And he was on the top position where he could have done damage, or possibly finished the fight. And this guy calls it."
MMA Fighting reported that White was not angry with Silva, who won. White said that Silva did not make the call, but the results need to be fixed.
