Zombies mode, a hallmark of every Treyarch-developed Call of Duty game, will make a triumphant return in Black Ops 2 when the blockbuster launches on November 13 for Xbox 360 and PS3, and November 18 for Wii U.
Players will have the opportunity to dismember their favorite brand of undead creatures in a story mode, a versus mode known as Grief Mode, and a wave-based onslaught of zombies called Survival mode.
Story mode encourages gamers to assemble weapons, such as the Zombie Shield that was highlighted in Activision's latest trailer. The game's official site reads: "Collect the right pieces as you make your way through [the map] TRANZIT and you might have a chance to put them to good use. Shotguns are classic, and rifles are powerful, but neither can compare with cover offered by the ZOMBIE SHIELD!"
Treyarch promises that the shield is just a taste of the mode's bevy of constructible items, asserting that it "is just one of the many surprises we have in store as you make your way through the BIGGEST Zombies experience yet!"
Survival Mode is a test of endurance for any undead hunter, rife with customization options for players to tweak. The concept is strongly reminiscent of Gears of War 2's Horde Mode, which has seemingly inspired every co-op multiplayer game released since its release years ago.
Grief Mode pits two teams of four players against one another, but takes away their ability to attack one another. The goal is to direct the zombies towards the opposing team and survive the longest.
Stay tuned for further Black Ops 2 updates at its release approaches.
