Despite the U.S. government's constant warnings, Mexico is still one of the hottest destinations of spring breakers, Fox News reported. The said warnings are linked to Mexico's increasing violent drug-related cases.
The state of Texas initially cautioned spring breakers not to visit Mexico's borders. And the state did issue consecutive warnings for the following years including this year. The recent warning was delivered in full details in a news release title "DPS Offers Spring Break Safety Tip for Texans", published late last month.
The Mexican government, although displeased with the warning for it poses bad publicity for the country, admits they can't blame Texas for being cautious.
Way back 2008, Mexico was in a bad light when the number of drug-related crimes heightened in some parts of the country. According to a Fox News Latino, cities that are on red alert now include Baja California and Cabo San Lucas.
The Texas government explains that the warning is for certain parts of Mexico only and not the entire country. The so-called list focused on the Mexican borders, emphasizing hat Cancun or Acapulco is a safe destination for tourists and spring breakers alike, American Thinker wrote.
In the American Thinker report, it was noted that Mexico has been battling drug-related violence and drug cartels for years now. In fact just last month, Mexican police arrested Servando Gomez Martinez aka "La Tuta," a famous drug cartel leader in Michoacan who was involved with meth production, kidnapping and extortion.
Michoacan is one part of Mexico known for its production and exportation of avocados to the United States. However due to the increasing drug exchange, local farmers are greatly impacted losing revenues from legal businesses, noted Fox News in another report.
This year, thousands of people are still expected to go to Mexico for the anticipated spring break, especially students who are excited to take a vacation. But students aren't the only ones drawn to the sunny country.
As a matter of fact, famous personalities like Patrick Schwarzenegger, Miley Cyrus's rumored boyfriend, was seen partying with his frat mates and friends in Cabo San Lucas last Sunday. According to E Online, this resulted to a cheating controversy when a photograph of the actor with a sorority sister was leaked and posted on social media. Rumors were greatly denied by Schwarzenegger.
