The Air Jordan 5 is set to release in a new colorway based on Michael Jordan's classic movie during the 1990s.
Kicks on Fire reported that the Air Jordan 5 "Space Jam" will be available on Saturday, June 6, 2015 and will retail at $190. The shoe will be available at Nike.com, Flight Shop and other select Jordan Brand retail outlets and sneaker boutiques.
The new colorway is inspired by the 1996 comedy movie "Space Jam", which starred Michael Jordan. In the film, Jordan enters the cartoon world of Looney Tunes. He leads a team of Looney Tunes characters like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck to play basketball against a team of evil aliens, who stole the powers of other popular NBA stars.
Sneaker Bar Detroit reported that the Air Jordan 5 "Space Jam" features white, infrared, light poison green and black tones. The midsole is particularly colorful, with the light poison ivy and grey tones at the back portion with black speckles and the black and infrared jagged teeth design at the front.
The air bubble reveals the red Air Max unit in the heel. The front region of the outsole is white, the front and rear parts of the outsole are icy blue and the middle portion is black. There is a big infrared Jumpman logo visible through the front icy outsole.
The infrared Jumpman logo is also present on the back and tongue of the shoe. The upper is mostly white smooth leather, with black accents on the side and tongue mesh panels. The tongue is grey with black speckles, giving it a "white cement" appearance which is also seen in other Jordan models. The shoelaces are white and the insoles are black.
SneakerFiles reported that the Air Jordan 5 "Space Jam" is a remastered version, which means that the company uses top quality materials that guarantee durability and aesthetics when making the shoe. It also explains why the sneaker is priced higher than previous Jordan 5 models. The June release will be part of the Jordan Brand's Remastered Collection for summer.
The Air Jordan 5 is a great basketball shoe, providing excellent cushioning and support. Many shoe collectors also like wearing the shoe for casual use.
Sole Collector reported that the shoe was originally released in 1990. It was inspired by a World War 2 Mustang fighter jet. Jordan Brand first featured the retro version in 2000. Two of its most distinctive features are the large tongue and jagged teeth design on the midsole.
