Apple is promoting the new iPod Touch as "engineered for maximum funness" with its new thin, light, larger screen, and enhanced camera device.
The iPod Touch Fifth Generation (5G) has so far met positive reviews, even drawing comparisons to the iPhone 5.
What are the critics reviewing on the iPod Touch 5G?
According to Stuff.tv, "Its gorgeously sleek anodized aluminum body is a joy to hold and takes a page out of the Nokia Lumia 920's book, arriving in a cavalcade of bright colors. All of them look tasty enough to lick (though we sadly didn't indulge ourselves)."
Stuff added that the iPod Touch 5G "shares the same impressive" 4-inch Retina Display as the iPhone 5, "treating our eyes to the same crystal clear icons and punchier colours. The extra real estate is very welcome and will compliment A5-powered games and the new Siri rather nicely."
For Cecelia Dahl of Auto-o-Mobile, she considers the iPod Touch 5G as the "basics" of the iPhone 5 without having to pay the price for one.
Dahl reviewed, "I would only recommend the iPod touch 5G to those who want access to all the great apps in the App Store but don't want to splurge on a smartphone. Think of it as a secondary device to your BlackBerry just for entertainment and social media."
Macworld's Christopher Breen, the 5G is "umpteen times better" than its predecessor, the fourth generation iPod Touch.
Breen supported his claim by noting the screen size, weight, and buttons that feel "perfectly in place."
Overall, Breen recommends the latest iPod Touch as "an iPod you'll treasure."
"With its improved cameras, zippy performance, bright and roomy display, support for Siri, and more colorful and statuesque form, the fifth-generation iPod touch is a winner," Breen reviewed.
NBC News' Rosa Golijan said until the device is in your hands then "you fully realize just mind-boggling the device is."
"The new Touch is a powerful, gorgeous little beast," she reviewed. "No other device will get you this close to an iPhone straight out of the box. It doesn't require contracts, it won't come with monthly bills, and did I mention it's so easy on the eyes that you might feel a bit of lust?"
However, similar to Dahl's review, Golijan noted the lack of built-in GPS capabilities and differences from the iPhone 5's camera and A6 processor.
Golijan concluded, "But if you are stuck on a dumbphone or enjoy your Android but want to know how the other half lives, this all-in-one media-player-slash-basic-point-and-shoot-slash-kinda-sorta-tablet will do the job."
