Samsung Group (OTCMKTS:SSNLF) has released another head-to-head competition with Apple, the new Samsung Galaxy S6.
The Galaxy S6 has made a strong impact on consumers by stepping it up in the design quality department. According to Forbes, Samsung has made it a point to be aggressive in their marketing and advertising strategy for the Galaxy S6 so they could build up a "momentum with consumers" and "so its handsets are seen as the only choice when they walk into a store to buy a new smartphone."
With that goal, Samsung has critically placed this smartphone in a design pedestal, according to The Verge. The S6 is considered to be a reboot of their top-of-the-line Galaxy flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Samsung has scrapped the creation process and built it from the ground up. As a result, the Galaxy S6 has been referred to as the "most visually stunning device Samsung has ever produced."
It has a slick feel with glass panels on the front and back. To go with the smooth aesthetic, they also used a metal frame which aligns to the flat-surfaced display.
The metal overall look of the phone is an improvement from previously made "cheap-feeling plastics that have dominated Samsung products for years," according to The Verge.
Samsung also improved the screen quality of the phone, boasting of high contrast ratio and 577ppi with a super bright mode feature, according to Tech Radar.
The screen, which is a 5.1-inch display, is "better than the Note 4's," which is already considered as one of the leading products in the industry when it comes to display.
In terms of specs, the Samsung Galaxy S6 has surpassed expectations. As Tech Radar noted, "the specs on the Samsung Galaxy S6 are out of this world."
The new smartphone has a 64-bit octacore processor, with 3GB of RAM. Unfortunately, it will not have a removable micro SD slot. But, the in-house storage offers 3 options: 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB.
The hardware improvements are expected to increase Galaxy's performance by about 40 percent.
Just like Apple, the South Korean tech giant has also incorporated a fingerprint sensor. This is expected to improve the security of the phone.
Payment options are also added in the new Galaxy S6. The smartphone can transact NFC payments now, "with barcodes chucked into the mix as well for good measure."
There is only one downside this phone has, according to the critics: The TouchWiz.
TouchWiz has already been implemented in Samsung's previous smartphones. The reviews on TouchWiz are not impressive. It retained it's cartoony feel, with bright colors. But, there are changed features like the menu. The new TouchWiz no longer has the unnecessary dialogue boxes.
Nonetheless, TIME noted, that it is still too early to state a final judgment on TouchWiz.
According to NDTV Gadgets, US carrier pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S6 could start at $199. But are specs and features of the new device worth the money? Cast your votes!
