An all-touch Blackberry smartphone has just been introduced and looks it's awesome! But is it ready to take on the competition and battle with the rest of the main players in the smartphone arena?

The new device shown during this year's Mobile World Congress is called Blackberry Leap. "Say hello to the newest member of #TeamBlackBerry - The #BlackBerryLeap https://blck.by/1AClRvY," BlackBerry's official Twitter account announced on Tuesday.

Specs and Features

According to BlackBerry's official blogsite, the new device is "built for those rising stars who value productivity, communication, and take security seriously." It is also perfect for those who need their smartphones working for more than a day as its main selling point is its powerful battery which could last for 25 hours of heavy use.

"The BlackBerry Leap fits nicely into the BlackBerry portfolio, offering an affordable device for those out there who prefer an all-touch option. It boasts the features of a 'hero' device with the price tag of an entry-level one. When serious work has to be done, when an email from your boss can't be missed, and when you need a trusted secure device that can power through a full day of work, BlackBerry Leap will be at the ready so you can grab opportunities as they come," the Blackberry statement read.

BlackBerry Leap has 5 inches HD display. GSM Arena said the phone's dimensions are 144 x 72.8 x 9.5mm. It weighs 170 grams. It is powered by Snapdragon S4 Plus chip with a 1.5GHz dual-core Krait CPU and the Blackberry 10.3.1. The device has a 2GB of RAM, a 16 GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot for up to an additional 128GB memory. It has an 8 megapixel main camera with LED flash and 5x digital zoom.

BlackBerry boasts that the new device was "designed with the highest standards of security in mind" and is "equipped with support for encryption, plus built-in anti-malware protection and back-up, wipe and restore."

GSM Arena noted that the new BlackBerry Leap will be available on a contract free price of $275. It is said to launch this April.

Aside from dropping the curtains on the BlackBerry Leap, GSM Arena said in a separate report that BlackBerry also made other new announcements during the MWC event. One of that was talked about was the "curved, slider" smartphone that was shown on stage.

BlackBerry on Twitter said, "What a Surprise! Ron just pulled out a dual-curved, all-touch display with a Keyboard - yes a slider device! #MWC15." No further details about this device have been divulged.

During the event, BlackBerry also announced that the BlackBerry Classic, which is currently available on the regular black color, will now be available in 3 new different colors -- blue, bronze, and white.
