More Android users are reportedly going to receive the 5.1 version of the Lollipop update. The latest devices to get the said version are the Spice Dream Uno and Spice Dream Uno H smartphones, both from Android One.
NDTV Gadgets said the update will roll out in the next few days. As always, it will be in stages. The two devices were both first launched with the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update.
"The Android Lollipop 5.1 update is the latest version of Android operating system and offers a significantly improved smartphone experience with an enhanced visual appeal, user interface and general improvements in system stability," the report quoted the cellphone brand saying.
Meanwhile, a separate report from TechVorm cited Spice Mobility Ltd CEO Prashant Bindal saying, "In line with our brand promise 'Always the latest', we are delighted to be the first player to release the Android Lollipop 5.1 update, exclusively for our Spice Dream Uno users in India. Android Lollipop 5.1 is the latest version of Lollipop and consists of lots of improvements over Lollipop 5.0, such as an improved battery and RAM management and smarter notifications, thereby offering our customers an enhanced user experience. In the future as well, we look forward to be the first to offer our consumers the latest technology with our devices."
HTC's Product Management vice president Mo Versi earlier revealed that Google's next maintenance release would be this March. Android Geeks even listed some of the phones which would be receiving the 5.1 Lollipop version. This includes Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, both the 2012 and 2013 versions, Nexus 9, Nexus 10, and other GPE devices. It will roll out in stages and will be sent via OTA. The Nexus devices to get it first are Nexus 6 and 9.
The Android Lollipop 5.1 update, according to Android Geeks, will not provide new features. However, it will improve the system's performance and fix some bugs. There are also speculations that the new update would provide something new in the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth toggles in the Quick Settings. It said that users would now be able to see a list of Wi-Fi networks or Bluetooth devices nearby just by tapping the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth words. By pressing the icons, you will be able to toggle the its on/off functions. Plus, you can go to the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings menu by pressing the new 'More settings' button.
Aside from this, the new Lollipop update version is also expected to bring new clock animations and an upgraded screen pinning. The arrival of the 5.1 version is also said to fix problems and issues with wireless connections, OK Google function, Notifications, sounds, and even sudden app closures. It is also expected to improve RAM and battery management.
Android Pit said the Android L 5.1 was first spotted on new Android One devices in Indonesia. It said it was seen as early as in mid-December last year.
